As
someone who has been browsing millions of blogs over the last couple of months,
I have begun to get an idea of what a successful blog looks like. Although
there are a millions of rules and guidelines, having your own individual
writing style seems to stick out the most in a post. It can be intimidating
starting to write about topics you're still learning about. There
is so much information to be found that it can leave anyone overwhelmed. Slowly
I’ve become more informed and excited to share what I’ve learned. Down below I
will leave a couple of tips to make any writer feel a little more
secure in their new blogging ventures.
TIP
1:
Research!
No matter what you write, research it. Being informed is essential for an
educated post. Take note where other
bloggers are getting their information. Once you find out the leading
contributors to the topic you love make sure to be a regular follower of their
actions. If it’s politics, follow relevant leading politicians. If it’s
environmental policies, follow engaged activists. No matter what you research
and read, always be consistent and thorough.
TIP
2:
Take notes. Make
sure to jot down all the important details. Reading
is beneficial yet it can be inefficient. Retaining information can be quite
hard when you are overwhelmed with data. Make sure to have a word document
open. Just copy and paste your finds and you’ll not only save time, paper and
hand cramps, but you’ll have an organized and stabilized location for
information relevant for future blog posts. Note- Use your library to check out
‘free’ books to enhance your intelligence. This can add on to the research
you’ve done on the internet.
TIP
3:
Effectively use your
available resources. The most common resource to spread the
message of your blog is the internet. Use either your phone or computer, it is
the starting point to getting traction onto your blog site. Obviously the
internet is great, but it’s important to know the key sites in promoting your posts.
Using Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and networking sites can be
super beneficial. Make sure to share your most recent posts to the world in
order to make people read your stuff! Tell your friends! Find out bloggers who
are talking about you’re interested in by typing in keywords and hashtags. Reach
out to them by commenting to make your presence known!
TIP
4:
Don’t be afraid to explore. It can be a big, scary
world. Don’t be intimidated. What helped me write this very post was the idea
of not comparing my work to others. No matter what you write or what you decide
to do, just know that you are a unique individual. If you want to write analytical
essays on caricature comics, then just do it! Don’t put yourself down. Everyone
has to start somewhere.
